Episode 3

A four-panel educational cooking comic featuring two characters: Nukoo, a small beaver wearing glasses and a teal sweater, and Flowkï, a white fox dressed like a chef in an orange jacket and blue hat. They stand beside a stovetop with a frying pan.
Panel 1: A caption reads « This time, Nukoo doesn’t rush. Everything seems under control. » Raw chopped mushrooms sit on a plate. Nukoo says he learned his lesson and will cook them easily. Flowkï responds « Alright! »
Panel 2: The mushrooms are now in the pan cooking. The plate is empty. Nukoo proudly says « See? Perfect! » Flowkï replies « Hmm… Not bad! »
Panel 3: Nukoo grabs a salt shaker and says « Oh. Salt will make it even better! » Flowkï quickly reacts with « Wait! »
Panel 4: A caption explains the cooking tip: « Salt pulls water out. If you add salt too early in mushrooms, they release moisture. » The pan now contains watery mushrooms steaming in liquid. Flowkï says « Ah… Maybe next time. »
The comic illustrates a common kitchen technique: when sautéing mushrooms, adding salt too early draws out water and prevents proper browning.

Episode 3 🍳

After his last cooking disaster, Nukoo felt confident.

This time he was calm. Patient. Careful.

The mushrooms were browning beautifully. Everything was going perfectly… until Nukoo decided to add salt.

Mushrooms contain a lot of water, and salt pulls that water out. When salt is added too early, the mushrooms release moisture and begin steaming instead of frying.

That’s why many cooks wait until the mushrooms are nicely browned before adding salt.

Cooking is sometimes just about timing… and waiting for the chief ’s instructions.
